About BUSD
Binance USD (BUSD) is a USD-pegged stablecoin that tracks the U.S. dollar at a 1:1 ratio, used for trading, transfers, and holding dollar-denominated value on-chain. It was created through a partnership between Binance and Paxos, announced on September 5, 2019, with BUSD going live on the Paxos platform the same day. Trading on Binance began the following week, and Paxos supported direct purchase and redemption from mid-September 2019. BUSD is issued by Paxos on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token, with U.S. dollar reserves backing each unit in circulation. The token is not used for staking, governance, or network fees; it functions as a stable medium of exchange and settlement asset. Verified Paxos customers can purchase and redeem BUSD directly at a 1:1 rate in U.S. dollars. The token saw wide use on Binance and other exchanges as a dollar-denominated trading and payments instrument. Its supply is demand-driven with no fixed cap, though circulating supply stood at approximately 34.4 million BUSD as of 2026, well below historical peaks. BUSD is a fiat-backed stablecoin whose purpose is to provide a stable, dollar-equivalent asset within crypto markets.
