About Cardano
Cardano is a layer-1 blockchain platform whose native token is ADA. People use ADA for payments, transaction fees, staking to help secure the network, and governance participation. Charles Hoskinson, a co-founder of Ethereum, started Cardano, with development carried out by Input Output and related groups, and the network went live in 2017. It runs on Ouroboros, a proof of stake protocol in which token holders delegate to or run stake pools that confirm blocks. Cardano has a hard cap of 45 billion ADA, with new coins released to reward participants over time.
