About GALA
Gala Games is a blockchain-based gaming and entertainment ecosystem built around decentralized games and media. Eric Schiermeyer, a co-founder of Zynga, founded the project in 2019 with Michael McCarthy. Wright Thurston is also listed as a co-founder in some sources. The first GALA tokens were minted in July 2020 under a halving-based emission schedule, starting at 25 billion tokens issued in the first year. The ecosystem originally followed a Bitcoin-style halving model but now uses a dynamic emission mechanism where daily issuance is calculated as a percentage of the gap between total supply and the maximum supply cap. GALA exists as a token across multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, and relies on those networks' own consensus mechanisms, such as proof of stake. The native token, GALA, is used to pay gas and transaction fees within the Gala ecosystem, to purchase in-game NFTs and platform services, and to reward Founder's Node operators who help run decentralized game infrastructure. GALA has a maximum supply of 50 billion tokens, with circulating supply now near that cap. Tokens are burned when used as gas or for certain ecosystem activities.
