About Grass

Grass is a decentralized data layer built on the Solana blockchain that routes users' unused internet bandwidth through residential nodes to collect and structure public web data for AI training and other data applications. Andrej Radonjic founded the project, which was developed by Wynd Labs, with the Grass Foundation overseeing the protocol. The project was established around 2023 to 2024. The GRASS token and network launched via a token generation event in 2024, with circulating supply and vesting schedules tracked from late 2024 onward. Grass runs on Solana and relies on Solana's proof-of-stake consensus. It is a decentralized data-collection protocol rather than a base-layer blockchain with its own consensus mechanism. Node operators contribute bandwidth and help scrape verifiable public web data, which is aggregated into structured datasets used for AI model training and related products. The native token, GRASS, is a utility and governance token. It is used to reward node operators for bandwidth contributions, for staking, and for voting on on-chain governance proposals. GRASS has a fixed maximum supply of one billion tokens with no inflation beyond that cap. The supply is distributed across investor, contributor, community, and foundation allocations under a long-term vesting and unlock schedule.
