About Jupiter
Jupiter is a decentralized exchange aggregator and DeFi platform on Solana that routes and optimizes token swaps across Solana-based liquidity sources through a single interface. It was created by pseudonymous founder Meow and co-founder Siong Ong and launched on Solana in October 2021. The native JUP token launched on 31 January 2024 through a large airdrop, with an initial circulating supply of approximately 1.35 billion tokens. Because Jupiter is built on Solana, it operates under Solana's proof-of-stake consensus, and JUP is an SPL-standard token on that blockchain. JUP functions primarily as a governance token for the Jupiter DAO, giving holders voting rights over protocol parameters, liquidity incentives, token issuance, and launchpad decisions. The total supply is capped at 7 billion JUP, reduced by governance vote from an originally planned 10 billion. Jupiter is a routing layer for token trading on Solana, used by both individual users and applications seeking optimized swap execution.
