About Mezo USD
Mezo USD (MUSD) is a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin issued on Mezo, an EVM-compatible Bitcoin-native financial network built for lending, borrowing, swaps, and savings using Bitcoin. Mezo was created by Thesis, a U.S.-based venture studio, and was publicly listed as launching in April 2024. The Mezo mainnet launched alongside MUSD in 2025. The network does not use proof-of-work mining. Instead, its incentive design relies on gauge voting, staking, and locking the native MEZO token into veMEZO NFTs to direct emissions and receive fee distributions. MEZO is the governance token, used for governance participation, gauge voting, and incentive steering through the protocol's locking and voting system. MUSD is the protocol's Bitcoin-denominated stablecoin. The protocol collects loan interest on MUSD debt and related fees to sustain operations. The total genesis supply of MEZO is capped at one billion tokens. MUSD supply is determined by collateralized borrowing activity within the network.
