About OKB
OKB is the utility token of the OKX cryptocurrency exchange, previously called OKEx, and the gas token for X Layer, an Ethereum Layer-2 network built with Polygon CDK and zk-rollup technology. Mingxing "Star" Xu, the entrepreneur behind Okcoin and OKEx, founded the project. OKB was first issued in March 2018, and the tradable token launched in April 2019. It started as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, then migrated to OKX's own chain and later became the gas token for X Layer. The ticker is OKB. Holders use OKB to receive trading fee discounts on the OKX exchange, pay transaction fees on X Layer, participate in platform governance and voting, and access features like token sales and special services. OKB does not confer equity in OKX and is not primarily a staking-yield token. The token originally had a total supply of 300 million, supported by a buyback-and-burn program. Following contract upgrades and large burns in 2025, the supply is now hard-capped at 21 million OKB, with minting and further manual burns disabled. OKB is an exchange-linked utility asset used to reduce trading costs, enable participation in platform activities, and pay for transactions on the X Layer network.
