About Polkadot
Polkadot is a blockchain protocol built to connect many separate chains so they can share data, assets, and security. Its DOT token is used for governance, staking, and reserving network resources for connected chains. Gavin Wood, a co-founder of Ethereum, created Polkadot with Peter Czaban and Robert Habermeier, publishing the white paper in 2016 and launching the mainnet on May 26, 2020. It uses nominated proof of stake, where token holders back validators who confirm blocks on the central relay chain. DOT has no fixed cap; new tokens are issued over time, making it an inflationary supply model.
