Meta appoints Alex Schultz as first chief data officer
The nearly two-decade Meta veteran steps into a newly created role that signals the company's growing emphasis on data governance.
Meta has named former Chief Marketing Officer Alex Schultz as Chief Data Officer in a leadership reshuffle aimed at strengthening its AI capabilities.
Denise Moreno, previously Vice President of Consumer Marketing and Growth, has been promoted to CMO after helping expand Threads beyond 500 million users.
Since joining Meta in 2007, Schultz has been instrumental in expanding several of the company’s flagship platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, and led the 2021 corporate rebrand to Meta.
In his new position, Schultz will oversee AI analytics, infrastructure analytics, research, and strategic insights, bringing data management closer to Meta’s executive leadership.
Schultz said his immediate focus will be developing a semantic layer across Meta’s data warehouse to provide AI systems with stronger contextual understanding, a project he expects to prioritize over the coming six months.
