Meta appoints new chief information security officer as cybersecurity leadership gap closes
The tech giant fills a critical security vacancy that had persisted since its previous CISO departed in mid-2026.
The move comes after Guy Rosen, who served as Meta’s first-ever CISO starting in June 2022, departed the company in June 2026 after nearly 13 years. His exit left a conspicuous gap in the company’s security leadership at a time when cyber threats are evolving faster than most organizations can patch their systems.
Rosen’s original appointment in 2022 was itself a milestone. He was Meta’s first dedicated CISO, a role that most Fortune 500 companies had filled years earlier. Before taking the position, Rosen had overseen Meta’s election integrity efforts, which became a flashpoint after the platform’s role in misinformation campaigns during multiple election cycles.
His departure created a leadership vacuum in a function that touches everything from regulatory compliance to infrastructure resilience. The lack of a publicly named successor or interim leader for what appears to have been several months raised eyebrows among governance-focused investors and analysts who track enterprise security postures.
