Meta Platforms approaches $2T market cap, less than $100B away
A surging stock price driven by AI optimism and analyst upgrades has Meta knocking on the door of an exclusive valuation club.
Meta Platforms is closing in on a $2 trillion market capitalization, with the company’s valuation sitting in the range of $1.82 trillion to $1.90 trillion after a sharp rally on September 21. The gap to that psychologically significant milestone is now less than $100 billion, a distance that looked far more daunting just a year ago when the company was worth roughly $1.48 trillion.
Shares of META surged between 10% and 12% intraday. The catalyst was bullish analyst commentary and growing investor excitement around Meta’s AI product pipeline.
What’s driving the rally
Wells Fargo raised its price target on Meta from $640 to $796, with shares trading between $714 and $747 on the day. The upgrade centered on early traction from Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent that launched around September 8.
Muse handles tasks like email management, booking, and form-filling, offered across both free and paid tiers. It reportedly notched record downloads in the US within weeks of launch.
Meta Connect, the company’s flagship developer and product event, was scheduled for September 23-24, just days after the rally. Investors were positioning ahead of what was expected to be a showcase of additional AI product announcements.

The financial scaffolding behind the valuation
Trailing twelve-month revenue stood at approximately $228 billion, with net income around $68 billion.
Meta’s market cap trajectory over the past three years: at the end of 2023, the company was valued at roughly $910 billion. By the end of 2024, it had reached $1.48 trillion. By the close of 2025, $1.66 trillion. Now it’s approaching $1.9 trillion mid-2026.
Muse represents Meta’s first real consumer-facing AI agent product with a direct monetization path, separate from the ad infrastructure, with a paid tier offering a revenue stream independent of advertising.
The $2 trillion club
Reaching $2 trillion in market cap would place Meta among an extremely select group. Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Alphabet have all traded at or above that level at various points. The remaining gap of less than $100 billion represents roughly a 5-6% move from current levels.
What to watch in the near term: Meta Connect on September 23-24, any additional analyst revisions in the wake of the event, and whether Muse’s download trajectory holds.
