MoonPay buys North Capital for more than $60 million in tokenization push

The Miami-based fintech is buying its way into institutional credibility, one compliance-focused acquisition at a time.

MoonPay has agreed to acquire North Capital Investment Technology, bringing a regulated private-markets platform into its global financial infrastructure business. The acquisition is intended to add securities brokerage and investment advisory capabilities while giving MoonPay infrastructure for private and tokenized securities.

North Capital operates several SEC-registered businesses, including broker-dealers, a transfer agent, an investment adviser and PPEX, an alternative trading system for secondary-market transactions. Its platform supports capital raising, asset management, clearing, custody and trading and has processed more than $8.7 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume. PPEX currently has more than 1,250 approved assets available for secondary trading.

MoonPay said the acquisition will help build the regulatory foundation for wider adoption of tokenized real-world assets and connect traditional securities infrastructure with its existing digital-asset platform. The transaction was unanimously approved by both boards and remains subject to required regulatory approvals.
