NVIDIA, Microsoft and peers unite to launch Open Secure AI Alliance
The alliance said open AI allows defenders to inspect, customize and deploy security systems without relying solely on proprietary providers.
NVIDIA has joined Microsoft and other leading technology companies to launch the Open Secure AI Alliance to promote the development of open-source AI technologies for cybersecurity and responsible AI deployment.
The initiative seeks to expand access to open AI models, agent frameworks and security tools that organizations can inspect, customize and operate independently, while emphasizing that open and closed AI systems should work together to strengthen cyber defenses.
The alliance pointed to Hugging Face’s recent use of an open-weight AI model during a cyber incident as evidence that open AI can provide critical capabilities when proprietary systems limit security investigations.
The alliance’s founding members include IBM, Cisco, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Hugging Face, HPE, Red Hat, Salesforce, SAP and numerous AI research organizations.

Contributors will develop open AI technologies including NVIDIA’s NOOA agent framework, Microsoft’s MDASH vulnerability scanning system, Hugging Face’s Safetensors format and additional identity, secure coding and software supply chain security tools.
The group also urged regulators to treat open AI as a defensive resource and invest in shared AI security infrastructure rather than imposing blanket restrictions on open AI models.
