OpenAI adds real-time collaboration to ChatGPT Slides

Pro, Business, and Enterprise users can now co-edit and comment on decks inside ChatGPT, putting OpenAI closer to Microsoft and Google's turf

OpenAI has added real-time collaborative editing and commenting to ChatGPT Slides. The features are available to subscribers on the Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans.

The update means multiple people can now work on the same AI-generated deck at once.

What changed in ChatGPT Slides

The rollout of ChatGPT Slides began on October 16, 2026. It lives inside Space, the collaborative workspace feature OpenAI introduced in late September 2026 at its DevDay event.

The headline addition is real-time multi-user editing. Several teammates can be inside a single presentation simultaneously, making changes as they go.

Shared commenting comes along with it. Colleagues can leave notes directly on a deck instead of scattering feedback across chat threads and inboxes.

The tool also supports direct, slide-level editing. Users can change text, images, shapes, and charts within a slide without needing to re-prompt the AI for every tweak.

Finished decks can be exported as PowerPoint files, PDFs, or Google Slides.

There is one notable gap at launch. Comment-only access is not available, so collaborators get either view permissions or full edit permissions, with nothing in between.

The NextSlide acquisition and the road to Space

The feature arrives roughly two months after OpenAI acquired NextSlide on August 9, 2026. That deal was aimed at strengthening the presentation capabilities inside ChatGPT.

Space is designed as a single environment where users can chat with the AI, conduct research, and now build and present decks without leaving the platform.

Access to Slides is limited to Pro, Business, and Enterprise users who have Space enabled. Free and lower-tier users are not part of this rollout.

What this means for the productivity software market

OpenAI is moving onto ground long held by Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Presentations, documents, and shared editing have been the backbone of those suites for years.

By adding multi-user editing and comments, OpenAI is addressing the feature set that makes office software sticky.

The export options support compatibility with PowerPoint and Google Slides, signaling that OpenAI wants to sit alongside incumbent tools. Both Microsoft and Google have been folding AI into their own suites.

There are clear things to watch from here. The first is whether OpenAI adds comment-only permissions. The second is whether access expands beyond the Pro, Business, and Enterprise tiers. The third is how Space evolves as a whole.
