US users can now talk through spending, savings, and budgets with ChatGPT out loud, using accounts linked through Plaid and Experian

OpenAI is letting people in the US talk to ChatGPT about their money. Literally talk, with their voice, while walking the dog or standing in a grocery line.

The company is adding voice chat to its personal finance feature in ChatGPT. Users can now ask about spending, savings, budgets, investments, and credit through spoken conversation instead of typing.

What OpenAI is actually shipping

The feature is called Finances in ChatGPT. It connects to a user’s financial accounts through partnerships with Plaid and Experian.

Plaid handles the bank connections. Experian provides credit monitoring.

The rollout has come in stages. Voice support for the finance tool became available to Free and Go users on October 2, 2026, according to the research findings. The tool itself reached the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro tiers in early October 2026.

OpenAI then formally announced voice-based finance discussions on November 3, 2026. The feature is limited to users in the US.

How the finance tool got here

OpenAI first introduced the personal finance tool on May 15, 2026, as a preview for Pro users in the US.

At launch, the preview could securely connect to more than 12,000 financial institutions via Plaid. It offered personalized insights and budgeting tools.

Since then, the feature list has grown steadily. OpenAI has added weekly updates, credit monitoring through Experian, stock watchlists, Android access, and manual account entry.

The product lead is Ethan Bloch, who previously co-founded Digit. That savings app helped its users save over $9 billion.

The privacy question

The company has emphasized user control over data. Account connections are read-only, meaning ChatGPT can view balances and transactions but cannot move money.

OpenAI has also stressed that the tool does not replace professional financial advice.
