OpenAI taps Meta executive to drive growth across Southeast Asia
The appointment comes as OpenAI ramps up its Asia-Pacific presence in an increasingly competitive AI market.
OpenAI has tapped Meta veteran Sandhya Devanathan to become its top executive for Southeast Asia and Australia, creating a new regional leadership role as the company seeks to expand across markets representing more than 600 million people. Devanathan will join in October.
Devanathan spent a decade at Meta after joining in 2016, most recently serving as the company’s vice president for India and Southeast Asia. She previously led Meta’s gaming business across Asia-Pacific. At OpenAI, she will report to Asia-Pacific managing director Kiran Mani, who joined the company in March.
The appointment comes as OpenAI ramps up its Asia-Pacific presence in an increasingly competitive AI market. Indonesia and the Philippines are already among ChatGPT’s top 10 markets worldwide, while OpenAI has established offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney and New Delhi.
