The solid-state battery maker says it is discussing the product with potential customers.
QuantumScape unveiled QS PowerBlock on October 8, its first battery product for AI data centers, Axios reported.
The launch expands the solid-state battery company’s focus beyond automotive applications. QuantumScape says the design supports different equipment sizes and formats and offers high power density and longer runtime.
The company said third-party tests demonstrated cell stability well above 300°C. It contrasted that result with conventional lithium-ion batteries, which it said can enter thermal runaway around 180°C.
CEO Siva Sivaram told Axios that the company is in discussions with prospective customers. He expects initial deployments in large AI training data centers.
Sivaram also argued that the batteries’ safety characteristics could improve insurability and shorten permitting. Those are company expectations rather than confirmed customer outcomes.
