Real Madrid contacts Arsenal over defender Piero Hincapie transfer

Jose Mourinho's side reportedly reaches out to Arsenal's on-loan centre-back as part of a broader defensive recruitment push

Real Madrid have contacted Arsenal to ask about the availability of defender Piero Hincapie, according to multiple reports.

The approach remains at an exploratory stage, with no formal offer submitted for the Ecuador international.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to add another versatile left footed defender ahead of the new season.

Hincapie can operate as a centre back or left back, giving Madrid an option across several defensive roles.

The 24 year old joined Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen on loan in September 2025. The agreement included an option to make the move permanent for £45 million and a five year contract if the clause was activated.

Arsenal are now expected to complete the permanent transfer after Hincapie established himself as an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

His name was not included on Arsenal’s list of departing loan players, indicating that the club intends to retain him beyond the end of June.

Hincapie became a regular option on the left side of Arsenal’s defense and started the Champions League final against Paris Saint Germain.

Real Madrid’s interest comes despite the club already strengthening its defense this summer.

Madrid recently signed Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a free transfer and added Marc Cucurella as Mourinho reshapes the squad for his second spell in charge.

Hincapie’s ability to defend centrally and cover the left flank could still make him an attractive option as Madrid looks to increase its depth.

Neither Arsenal nor Real Madrid has publicly commented on the reported contact.
