Solana surpasses Binance, Coinbase, and Kraken in spot asset volume

Solana's DEX has held second place globally for nine consecutive weeks, outpacing major centralized exchanges on raw trading volume.

For most of crypto’s history, the trading volume leaderboard has looked roughly the same: Binance at the top, followed by a handful of centralized exchanges, with decentralized platforms fighting for scraps. That hierarchy is quietly falling apart.

Spot asset volume on Solana’s decentralized exchange ecosystem now exceeds the combined volume of Coinbase and Kraken, and has done so consistently through the summer of 2026. During the week of June 12 through 18, Solana DEX volume hit approximately $7.19 billion. Coinbase posted roughly $6 billion over the same period. Kraken came in around $4 billion.

How a blockchain out-traded a stock-market-adjacent exchange

Solana’s DEX activity is not one company. It is a collection of protocols running on a shared blockchain, collectively processing more dollar volume than that entire institution.

The week of June 12 ranked Solana third globally behind Binance, which recorded approximately $34.39 billion in volume, and Bybit at approximately $9.47 billion. By late July, Solana had climbed to second place globally, trailing only Binance. It held that position for at least nine consecutive weeks through late August.

What is actually driving the volume

Three forces are doing most of the work here: meme coin activity, tokenized equities, and Solana’s underlying technical architecture.

Meme coins remain a reliable engine of retail engagement on Solana. The blockchain’s low fees and fast settlement make it the natural home for high-frequency, low-margin token speculation.

Tokenized equities are a newer and arguably more significant driver. The ability to trade representations of traditional stocks on-chain, around the clock, without going through a broker, has attracted a segment of users who would not have previously touched a DEX. Solana’s throughput makes that experience fast enough to be practical.

Centralized exchanges are taking notes

Both Coinbase and Kraken have moved to integrate access to Solana’s DEX ecosystem within their own applications. That decision is not purely philosophical. Exchanges follow volume, and volume is increasingly happening on-chain.

Solana’s performance through summer 2026 does not mean centralized exchanges are finished. Binance’s $34.39 billion weekly volume in mid-June is still roughly 4.8 times Solana’s figure. But the direction of travel is clear.
