Team Bald reaches EU Closed Qualifier for The International 2026
Streamer Gorgc's underdog Dota 2 squad went 9-1 in open qualifiers and now faces 15 other teams competing for four spots at the biggest tournament in esports
A team built around a Twitch streamer just punched its ticket to one of the most competitive brackets in Dota 2. Team Bald Reborn, the recurring passion project of popular streamer Gorgc, has qualified for the European Closed Qualifier for The International 2026, posting an impressive 9-1 series record through the open qualifier gauntlet.
The EU Closed Qualifier runs from June 21 to June 28, featuring 16 teams fighting over just four advancement slots to the main event.
From meme team to real threat
Team Bald Reborn was announced on June 8, 2026, with a roster of Shad in position 1, sanctity- at position 2, Xibbe playing position 3, mrls at position 4, and Bengan rounding out the lineup at position 5. Gorgc himself is serving as coach rather than playing.
The team’s open qualifier run was dominant by any reasonable standard. Their 2-1 series win against Zero Tenacity, which came on or around June 11, demonstrated they could handle adversity and close out tight matches.
For context, Valve restructured the qualification path for TI 2026 by merging the previously separate Eastern and Western European qualifiers into a single unified bracket, meaning the competition is now drawn from the combined talent pool of the entire European Dota 2 scene.
What they’re up against
The International 2026 will feature only seven directly invited teams, with the remaining roster spots filled through regional qualifiers. Four of those qualifier slots are allocated to Europe, meaning Team Bald Reborn needs to finish in the top four of the 16-team closed qualifier to reach the main event.
The Gorgc factor and what it means for esports
Gorgc has run variations of the “Team Bald” project before, assembling rosters for qualifier runs that double as compelling content. What makes this iteration different is the results. A 9-1 record isn’t a meme. It’s a legitimate competitive showing that earned a legitimate spot in a legitimate bracket.
The closed qualifier begins June 21. Team Bald Reborn will need to win multiple best-of-three series against significantly more established opposition over the course of a week.
