The service offers free instant transfers between X users, annual percentage yields of up to 6%, and 3% cashback on eligible purchases made with the X Card.
Users can also receive direct deposits up to two days early and access wire transfers, checks, free ATM withdrawals, and dedicated customer support.
Cross River Bank provides the regulated banking infrastructure and access to the payment rails supporting X Money. The bank holds customer deposit accounts and powers the movement of funds across the platform.
X described the launch as the first peer to peer payments experience built directly into a US social media platform. The companies also said X is the first US social platform to integrate insured deposit accounts, an interest bearing account, a Visa debit card, and broader payment services into its core product.
Cross River operates an API driven banking platform and controls the underlying technology used to support payments, accounts, and compliance services.
The bank said its infrastructure is designed to handle X’s large user base while supporting additional financial products as the platform expands.
Individual deposits held at Cross River are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for up to $250,000.
X Money automatically enrolls deposits in a cash sweep program that distributes funds across participating banks, providing eligible customers with up to $10 million in aggregate pass through FDIC insurance coverage.
X Payments itself is not an insured bank, and coverage applies only if a participating insured bank fails and all applicable conditions are met.
The platform uses passkeys for account authentication and allows users to set customized transaction limits and additional approval requirements.
Visa provides security and risk management protections for transactions made through the X Card.
The launch advances X’s effort to become a broader financial and communications platform by placing banking and payment tools inside its existing social network.
