Amazon AWS backlog reaches $496 billion
AWS generated 60% of Amazon’s operating income in the second quarter as the company plans $220 billion in capital spending this year.
Amazon Web Services’ backlog reached $496 billion in the second quarter, highlighting strong demand for cloud capacity as Amazon expands its data-center infrastructure.
AWS generated 60% of Amazon’s operating income while accounting for 21% of sales, according to Motley Fool analysis published by Yahoo Finance. AWS generated $42.2 billion in revenue during the quarter.
Amazon plans to spend $220 billion on capital expenditures this year, with nearly all of the investment going toward data centers. The company said it would not be able to meet all demand in 2026 or 2027, while demand for 2028 has already begun to appear.
At AWS’s current quarterly run rate, the backlog would take nearly 12 quarters, or about three years, to process.
