Virtu Financial is considering selling its agency brokerage and technology division in a deal that could raise up to $3.5 billion to $4 billion, Bloomberg reported.

The talks are at an early stage, and Virtu may ultimately decide to retain the business, according to people familiar with the matter. A company spokesperson declined to comment.

The potential sale would free capital for Virtu’s core market-making operation. The division includes agency brokerage, execution software, data and analytics services.

Virtu shares rose as much as 6.7% Thursday before reversing gains and falling 4% to $57.55 at 10:12 a.m. in New York.
