AMD to invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic: WSJ
Anthropic has agreed to purchase up to 2 gigawatts of AMD's next-generation Instinct MI450 AI accelerators.
AMD has secured a major AI infrastructure agreement with Anthropic that includes the purchase of up to 2 gigawatts of its upcoming Instinct MI450 AI chips and a commitment to invest up to $5 billion in the startup, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The chips, worth tens of billions of dollars, are scheduled to begin shipping in the first half of 2027 and are expected to provide Anthropic with additional computing power while helping AMD strengthen its position against market leader NVIDIA.
The agreement also marks AMD’s first investment in Anthropic, with the company planning to provide up to $5 billion tied to deployment milestones.
