A forecast puts the Claude maker's odds of announcing a public listing at roughly three in four

A forecast now gives Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude models, a 74% chance of announcing an initial public offering this year.

What a 74% forecast actually says

At 74%, forecasters are treating an announcement as the likely outcome. They are not treating it as a sure thing.

The wording matters too. The forecast covers whether Anthropic announces an IPO this year. It does not cover when shares would actually start trading.

In public markets, those are two very different milestones. An announcement starts a process, and a debut is where that process ends.

Why the market is watching Anthropic

Anthropic is one of the most closely followed private companies in artificial intelligence. Its Claude models compete directly in the race to build frontier AI systems.

Public companies report results on a fixed schedule. They answer to shareholders, analysts and regulators in ways private firms mostly do not.

How an IPO announcement usually unfolds

In the US, a company typically starts the public path by filing a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

That document lays out the business, the financials and the risks. For many observers, it is the first real look under the hood.

After the filing comes the marketing phase, usually called a roadshow. Bankers and executives pitch the deal to large investors and gauge demand.

Only after that does pricing happen, followed by the first day of trading.

What this means

For investors who cannot buy private shares, a public listing would be the first direct way to own a piece of a leading AI lab.

A filing would also be a disclosure event. Revenue, losses, spending and ownership details that are currently private would become public record, and the AI sector as a whole would get a rare benchmark.

The 74% figure also signals where sentiment sits. Forecasters are betting that the appetite for AI exposure in public markets is strong enough to pull a major lab into a listing sooner rather than later.

Still, the remaining 26% is not nothing. A sharp market downturn, regulatory friction or a strategic change of heart could each push an announcement into a later year.

For now, the things to watch are concrete. A formal regulatory filing, any statement from Anthropic itself, and movement in the forecast odds would each tell readers more than the current number can.
