Claude Fable 5.5 reportedly spotted in Azure configs, but Anthropic has not confirmed it
An unverified sighting has fueled talk of a new Fable model, though Anthropic's own documentation still lists Fable 5.1 as the top of the line
A model called Claude Fable 5.5 has reportedly turned up in Microsoft Azure configuration files, according to a post circulating on X. The post suggests the model may be released soon.
Anthropic has not said a word about it. As of October 13, 2026, the company has made no official announcement of a Fable 5.5. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything either.
What the sighting actually claims
The claim is simple. Someone says they found a reference to Claude Fable 5.5 inside Azure configs, and that this hints at an upcoming launch.
The sighting remains unverified. Neither Anthropic nor Microsoft has backed it up, and no screenshots or documentation from either company have confirmed the model exists.
Anthropic’s own documentation tells a quieter story. It lists Claude Fable 5.1 as the most advanced model in the Fable series. That version was released on September 1, 2026.
How the Fable line got here
The Fable story starts on June 9, 2026. That’s when Anthropic launched the original Fable 5, its introduction of what the company calls a “Mythos-class” model.
Fable 5 arrived with a 1 million token context window. Pricing was tiered at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.

The model was made available on three major clouds: Microsoft Azure, AWS Bedrock, and Google Cloud.
Then came Fable 5.1 on September 1, 2026. It remains the newest Fable model Anthropic has documented. The gap between Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 was less than three months.
Why people expect a 5.5
The Fable 5.5 name appears to come from pattern-matching rather than any statement from Anthropic. The company has been rolling out a Claude 5.5 family.
Opus 5.5 launched on September 22. Sonnet 5.5 followed shortly after. Anthropic has not announced any Fable variant tied to the 5.5 naming pattern, and its release notes for the 5.5 family stop at Opus and Sonnet.
What this means for enterprise buyers and the cloud race
Fable 5.1 is the most capable Fable model officially on offer today. Fable 5 set a reference point with its 1 million token window and $10 and $50 per-million pricing. None of those numbers have been published for a Fable 5.5.
Fable launched across Azure, AWS Bedrock, and Google Cloud at once. If a new Fable model were genuinely staged in Azure first, that would be a meaningful detail for Microsoft’s pitch to enterprise customers.
Anthropic shipped Fable 5, Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, and Sonnet 5.5 within roughly four months.
The signals that would actually settle this are straightforward. Watch for an update to Anthropic’s model documentation, an announcement from Anthropic itself, or a listing from Microsoft, AWS, or Google Cloud. Until one of those appears, Fable 5.5 remains a name in a reported config file, and Fable 5.1 remains the flagship of the line.
