Iranian president urges end to war with US and Israel
Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran should stop fighting while it retains power and what he called international recognition of victory
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian urged an end to the war with the US and Israel, pushing back against hardliners who want the fighting to continue.
Pezeshkian said it would be better to end the war while Iran retains power and dignity, according to the semi-official Iranian Students’ News Agency. He also said the world was acknowledging Iran’s victory.
The comments came as the Trump administration sought to shift from military action toward economic sanctions. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was expected to outline plans to economically isolate Iran and its trading partners.
Other Iranian officials, including members of the country’s military leadership, have argued that Iran is winning and should continue the fight. The war has continued for six months, with no quick resolution in sight.
