About Sei
Sei is a Layer 1 blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK, designed for high-performance trading and financial applications, particularly fast order execution and decentralized exchanges. Jeffrey Feng and Jayendra Jog founded the project. The Pacific-1 mainnet launched on 16 August 2023 alongside the SEI token. Sei uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus model where validators and delegators stake SEI to secure the network. Later upgrades introduced an Autobahn-based consensus mechanism to improve performance. The native token, SEI, is used to pay transaction and gas fees, stake with validators to earn rewards, vote on on-chain governance proposals, and act as a collateral and liquidity asset within applications on the network. SEI has a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion tokens, with allocations distributed across the community, ecosystem programs, the team, investors, and the foundation. Inflationary staking rewards are emitted over time up to that cap. Sei is built specifically as a settlement and execution layer for exchanges, order books, and other trading-focused decentralized applications.
