About Aptos
Aptos is a layer-1 blockchain built for decentralized applications and digital asset transfers. Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching founded the project in 2021 after both had worked on Meta's Diem blockchain initiative. The mainnet launched on 12 October 2022, and the native token APT was distributed at the same time. Aptos runs on the AptosBFT Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus mechanism and uses the Move smart contract language. Validators stake APT to participate in block production and earn rewards, and the token also covers transaction fees on the network. The initial token supply at launch was 1 billion APT, with later tokenomics discussions proposing a hard cap of 2.1 billion tokens. The blockchain is designed to support payments, asset transfers, and a broad range of decentralized applications.
