About Convex Finance

Convex Finance is a decentralized finance protocol built on Ethereum that aggregates and boosts rewards for Curve Finance liquidity providers and CRV token holders by pooling voting power and optimizing reward flows. The protocol launched in 2021, and its native ERC-20 token, CVX, went live the same year. Convex Finance operates as a set of smart contracts on Ethereum and inherits Ethereum's proof-of-stake consensus, with no separate blockchain or consensus mechanism of its own. The native token is CVX, which has three main purposes: participating in governance over the Convex protocol and integrated platforms, claiming a share of protocol fee revenues, and receiving rewards minted to users based on Curve activity routed through Convex. CVX holders can lock their tokens, a position commonly called vlCVX, to vote on how incentives and gauge weights are directed across Curve, Frax, and other integrated systems. CVX has a hard maximum supply of 100 million tokens. Issuance is mechanically tied to CRV reward claims through a cliff-based emission schedule until the cap is reached, and total supply is currently near that ceiling. Convex Finance functions primarily as a yield and governance optimization layer for Curve ecosystem participants.
