About Lido DAO
Lido DAO is a decentralized autonomous organization that governs the Lido liquid staking protocol. It lets users stake Ethereum and other proof-of-stake assets while keeping liquidity. Konstantin Lomashuk, Vasiliy Shapovalov, and Jordan Fish founded the project in 2020, and the Ethereum staking service launched on 19 December 2020. Users deposit ETH into the protocol, which distributes it across professional node operators running validators on Ethereum's proof-of-stake network. In return, users receive liquid staking tokens like stETH. These tokens have balances that adjust to reflect accruing staking rewards and can be used in DeFi applications including trading, lending, and yield strategies. The native token of Lido DAO is LDO, used exclusively for governance. Holders vote on protocol parameters, node operator assignments, fee structures, treasury spending, and upgrades. LDO has a fixed total supply of one billion tokens, all minted at inception. Distribution was governed by initial allocations and vesting schedules that were largely completed by the end of 2022. Lido DAO collects service fees from the staking protocol and directs them through LDO-holder governance toward development, liquidity incentives, grants, and contributor payments.
