About AB
AB, formerly known as Newton Project, is a heterogeneous, multi-network blockchain ecosystem designed to provide infrastructure for stablecoins, payments, and real-world asset integration, with applications in IoT, gaming, and finance. The project started as Newton Project in 2018 and has since rebranded into the AB ecosystem. AB has operated as a tradable mainnet asset since at least 2018, with AB Core and additional sidechains deployed over time. The technical design follows a modular, heterogeneous architecture made up of an EVM-compatible mainnet called AB Core, specialized sidechains such as AB IoT, and a cross-chain bridge called AB Connect that enables interoperability and real-world asset support. The native token, AB, is used primarily to pay gas fees for transactions and smart contract execution. Ecosystem sources also describe it as supporting staking, validation, and on-chain governance through a DAO and AB Improvement Proposals. AB's primary practical purpose is to function as low-cost blockchain infrastructure for stablecoin settlement, cross-chain payments, and the tokenization and transfer of real-world assets. AB has a fixed maximum supply of 100 billion tokens, with circulating supply reported at approximately 98.8 billion. The project incorporates token burning to manage supply.
