About Oasis

Oasis Network is a Layer-1 blockchain built around a separated proof-of-stake consensus layer and privacy-enabled execution environments called ParaTimes, which support confidential smart contracts and data tokenization applications. Oasis Labs, founded in 2018 by Dr. Dawn Song, a computer science professor at UC Berkeley, is a core technical contributor to the network. The Oasis Network mainnet launched on 18 November 2020, enabling ROSE transfers and staking from the outset with a decentralized validator set. The network uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism implemented with a Tendermint-style Byzantine Fault Tolerant protocol, where validators stake ROSE to participate in block production and finality. ROSE is the native token, used to pay transaction and network fees, to stake and delegate to validators securing the consensus layer, and to participate in on-chain governance of protocol upgrades. The total supply of ROSE is fixed at 10 billion tokens, with approximately 1.5 billion released at mainnet launch and the remainder allocated and vested over time, including roughly 2.3 billion reserved for staking rewards. Oasis Network is a privacy-oriented smart-contract platform, and ROSE is its core staking and fee asset.
