About QuarkChain

QuarkChain is a permissionless, sharded, multi-layer blockchain designed for high throughput and scalability in use cases like payments, trading, gaming, and other high-frequency applications. Qi Zhou, who holds a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering and previously worked at Google and Facebook, founded the project in 2017. The network and its native token launched in 2018, with June 4, 2018 commonly cited as the creation date. QuarkChain uses a two-layer architecture: multiple shard blockchains secured by a root blockchain, with consensus achieved through Proof of Work across both layers using its Boson sharding design. The native token, QKC, is used to pay gas fees, reward miners for network maintenance, and participate in governance voting. QKC initially existed as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum for ICO distribution before also functioning as the native coin on the QuarkChain mainnet. The total token supply is capped at 10 billion QKC, with issuance governed by a decreasing annual mining output. Circulating supply is roughly 64 percent of that total. QuarkChain is a general-purpose public blockchain built for applications that require large transaction volumes and low fees.
