About Tether Gold
Tether Gold is a gold-backed digital token, with each unit representing ownership of one troy ounce of physical gold held in vault custody. It gives holders a way to own, move, and trade gold on a blockchain rather than storing bars themselves. Tether created it and launched it in January 2020, with the issuer named as TG Commodities within the Tether group. The token has no consensus of its own; it is issued on existing chains such as Ethereum and TRON, so it inherits their security. Supply is tied to reserves: tokens are minted when gold is deposited and redeemed against the metal, so the amount in circulation tracks the gold held in custody.
