Worldcoin is a project built around World ID, a digital identity system meant to prove that an online user is a unique, real person while protecting privacy. Its WLD token supports utility, governance, and the network's identity and payment features. Sam Altman, Alex Blania, and Max Novendstern founded the project in 2019, and the token launched on July 24, 2023. WLD is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and the project also runs World Chain, a layer-2 network where most WLD transactions are expected to happen. The supply began with a cap of 10 billion tokens, and any inflation beyond that cannot start until at least 15 years after launch.
