The crypto exchange is partnering with the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange to tokenize equities in a 50-50 joint venture valued against OKX's $25 billion price tag

OKX announced today that Andrew M. Cuomo, the former governor of New York, has been appointed to its board of directors after advising the company on US regulatory and institutional matters since 2023.

Cuomo previously served as New York’s attorney general and as US secretary of Housing and Urban Development before becoming the state’s 56th governor.

The crypto exchange said the appointment strengthens its governance as it expands its presence in the US and builds infrastructure linking traditional finance with digital assets.

OKX CEO Star Xu said Cuomo has influenced the company’s approach to the US market and will provide additional expertise on regulatory and institutional engagement as a board member.

“Governor Cuomo has been a thoughtful voice for OKX for years, and his move to the board formalizes a relationship that has already shaped how we approach the US market. As we build OKX into the infrastructure layer for both traditional and digital finance, we need people who understand how governments, institutions and markets actually think. That’s exactly what he brings,” Xu stated.

The announcement follows several strategic initiatives in 2026, including a joint venture with Intercontinental Exchange, where Cuomo acts as co-chair, aimed at giving institutional investors access to tokenized financial products.
