OpenAI enhances ChatGPT profiles with new showcase features
Shareable profiles with plugin displays, activity metrics, and customizable showcases roll out across all subscription tiers during DevDay 2026.
OpenAI just turned ChatGPT into something that looks a lot more like a social platform. The company unveiled shareable user profiles during its DevDay 2026 event on September 29, complete with activity metrics, a “Top Plugins” section, and a customizable Showcase that lets users display up to 12 Sites they’ve built inside the platform.
What the new profiles actually include
The profiles are built around three core components. First, there are activity metrics: message counts, Work and Codex token usage, and streaks that track how consistently someone has been using the platform.
Second, there’s the Top Plugins section. This surfaces the plugins a user relies on most, giving visitors a quick read on how someone actually uses ChatGPT day to day.
Third is the Showcase. Users can pin up to 12 Sites to their profile. Sites are lightweight, shareable web properties that can be created entirely within ChatGPT.
Profiles also come with editable names, usernames, and bios. Personal profiles default to private, meaning you have to actively opt in to make yours visible. Business workspace profiles flip that logic: they’re shared by default, with administrators retaining control over visibility settings.
Sites get a meaningful upgrade too
The profile launch didn’t happen in isolation. OpenAI simultaneously upgraded Sites with two capabilities that matter for collaboration.

Sites can now embed connected plugins directly, turning what was essentially a shareable document into something closer to a lightweight app.
The other addition is per-user permissions. Multiple people can interact through a single shared Site-hosted app while maintaining their individual accounts.
OpenAI also announced new plugin extension types during DevDay, including sidebar apps, conversation panels, and file viewers.
Who gets access, and when
Profile browsing and basic sharing are available across all subscription tiers: Free, Go, Plus, and the rest. You don’t need to pay OpenAI a dime to see someone’s profile or share your own.
The Showcase section isn’t available on mobile devices yet.
Enterprise support is also still on the way. OpenAI confirmed that profile functionality for Enterprise-level accounts is forthcoming.
