CTO of compute Uday Ruddarraju will take over the organization as Katti moves to an advisory role.

OpenAI infrastructure and compute lead Sachin Katti will leave his role on November 15 and remain an advisor, CNBC reported on Wednesday. Uday Ruddarraju, the company’s CTO of compute, will take over the overall compute organization, an OpenAI spokesperson said.

Katti announced the move on LinkedIn after roughly a year at OpenAI, saying he plans to build something new. He expressed confidence in Ruddarraju and the team.

The compute organization plans the infrastructure needed to train and operate OpenAI’s models. The company is targeting about $600 billion in compute spending by 2030 and is involved in data center projects in Ohio, Texas and Georgia, CNBC reported.

Ruddarraju joined OpenAI in July 2025, according to his LinkedIn profile. He previously led infrastructure engineering at xAI.

The transition follows other senior departures this year. Product and business chief Fidji Simo moved to an advisory role in July to focus on her health. Brad Lightcap and revenue chief Denise Dresser left in August.

OpenAI President Greg Brockman told CNBC at the time that leadership changes were not unusual for a young company, while the attention on OpenAI brought additional scrutiny to each departure.
