ServiceNow and OpenAI are tightening their relationship again. On October 28, 2026, ServiceNow announced an expanded strategic partnership that pushes OpenAI’s models deeper into its products.

The headline feature is a new MCP plugin that puts ServiceNow’s business data and workflow actions directly inside ChatGPT conversations.

What ServiceNow and OpenAI actually announced

The update centers on what ServiceNow describes as bidirectional connections between its workflows and two OpenAI products: ChatGPT and Codex. Information and actions can now move in both directions.

The MCP plugin surfaces business context, incident processing, risk assessments and workflow actions within a ChatGPT conversation.

The plugin went live as of October 28, 2026. Enhanced functionality is expected by the end of 2026.

ServiceNow says its Action Fabric will make sure existing security permissions are respected during these ChatGPT interactions. Permissions that apply inside ServiceNow are meant to follow the user into ChatGPT.

ServiceNow also plans to show off interactive ChatGPT experiences built around resolving IT incidents.

A rollout that starts at home

ServiceNow is also turning the tools on itself. The company plans to give all of its employees access to ChatGPT Work and Codex.

Until now, that access was limited to the engineering department.

Voice capabilities are slated to launch by Q1 2027.

OpenAI-powered security features are scheduled to enter early access in January 2027. General availability is projected for Q2 2027.

Background: a partnership built in stages

The expansion builds on a multi-year agreement the two companies struck on January 20, 2026.

Under that deal, OpenAI’s models, including GPT-5.2, became the preferred intelligence layer of ServiceNow’s AI Platform. The arrangement was designed to support agentic workflows across IT, finance and HR.

The October announcement also follows closely on a separate partnership expansion between ServiceNow and Google Cloud. ServiceNow additionally works with NVIDIA as part of what it frames as a multi-model AI strategy, which the company has described as an enterprise AI “control tower.”

What this means for ServiceNow and enterprise AI

By routing ChatGPT activity through Action Fabric and its own permission model, ServiceNow can pitch OpenAI’s capabilities without asking IT departments to build custom integrations themselves.

For OpenAI, the deal extends ChatGPT and Codex further into corporate workflows.

ServiceNow shares (NOW) were trading around $149 to $150 shortly after the announcement.

OpenAI-powered security features enter early access in January 2027 and reach general availability in Q2 2027. Voice capabilities are expected in Q1 2027.
