Blockchains have always charged an odd cover fee. Before you can do anything at all, you need the network’s own token to pay for gas. Slush Wallet is trying to make that requirement disappear.
The self-custodial wallet, built by Mysten Labs for the Sui blockchain, now lets users cover network fees with stablecoins across swaps, staking, deposits, withdrawals, sends, and payments. For anyone holding dollars onchain but no SUI, a small and persistent headache just got a lot smaller.
What changed, and when
The rollout came in two stages. On October 14, 2026, Slush first let users pay network fees in stablecoins, but only for sends and payments.
The October 28 update widened the scope considerably. Stablecoin fee payment now extends to swaps, staking, unstaking, deposits, and withdrawals.
Slush does not add its own platform fees for standard actions. The only cost users face is the Sui network gas fee, and that fee can now be settled in supported stablecoins.
Validators, for their part, still get paid in SUI. The wallet relies on Sui’s programmable transaction blocks and gas sponsorship capabilities to convert stablecoins in the background.

For the less technical: programmable transaction blocks let several operations be grouped together, while gas sponsorship allows fees to be covered on a user’s behalf. Slush uses those tools so the stablecoin-to-SUI handoff happens without the user ever managing it manually.
How Slush got here
Mysten Labs developed Slush as a wallet for Sui ecosystem users who want simpler transactions and easier fee management. The stablecoin gas feature fits squarely inside that pitch.
It also follows a string of recent upgrades. Between October 6 and October 9, 2026, Slush announced an integration with Halliday that brought cross-chain deposits and fee-free stablecoin peer-to-peer transfers to the wallet.
The two-step rollout of fee payments also suggests a measured approach. Sends and payments came first, then the more complex actions like staking and swaps followed two weeks later.
What this means for Sui users and SUI holders
For SUI holders, the picture is more nuanced but not alarming. Validators are still compensated in SUI, so the network’s fee economics continue to run on the native token. The change reroutes who handles the conversion rather than removing SUI from the equation.
No immediate market-moving effects have been noted.
A few things are worth watching. Users should check which stablecoins qualify as supported for fee payment before relying on the feature. Background conversion also means trusting the wallet to handle the swap smoothly. That is a reasonable trade for most users, though anyone who values seeing every step of a transaction may still prefer to keep a little SUI on hand.
