YouTube removes Bitcoin Treasuries channel ahead of conference, cites harmful content
The educational Bitcoin channel was terminated without prior warnings or strikes, joining a growing list of crypto creators caught in YouTube's moderation sweep.
YouTube has pulled the plug on the Bitcoin Treasuries channel, run by host Tim Kotzman under the @BitcoinTreasuryCompanies handle, labeling its content as “harmful or dangerous.” The channel, which focused on Bitcoin education, corporate treasury strategies, and wallet tutorials, received no prior strikes or warnings before the termination.
Kotzman has filed an appeal with YouTube, but the timing is particularly awkward. Bitcoin Treasuries Media, the organization behind the channel, has conferences in the pipeline focused on corporate Bitcoin strategies, and one of its primary outreach vehicles just vanished overnight.
A pattern, not an isolated incident
Several prominent Bitcoin channels have faced similar terminations during what appears to be a broader crackdown on crypto content. Bitcoin.com’s channel, which had been active since 2015 and accumulated over 100,000 subscribers, was among those hit. BTC Sessions and Bitcoin Magazine have also experienced removals, though some were reversed after public backlash forced YouTube’s hand.
The collective damage across affected creators has been substantial, with educational Bitcoin channels losing millions of subscribers during the sweep. For creators who built audiences over years, the operational fallout goes beyond vanity metrics. Video embeds across external sites break instantly, archived educational resources disappear, and revenue streams evaporate.
Creators producing educational material about a legal asset class are getting flagged and removed, while scam advertisements, including fake giveaway schemes and phishing operations targeting crypto users, continue to run across the platform.

What the channel actually covered
The Bitcoin Treasuries channel wasn’t pumping altcoins or selling trading signals. Its focus was squarely on the growing corporate adoption of Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset. The channel provided data on corporate Bitcoin holdings, discussed treasury management strategies, and offered practical tutorials on Bitcoin wallets.
Bitcoin Treasuries Media has scheduled conferences dedicated to corporate Bitcoin strategy. These events bring together executives, analysts, and Bitcoin advocates to discuss how companies are integrating Bitcoin into their financial operations. Losing the YouTube channel strips the organization of a key marketing and educational distribution channel right when audience engagement matters most.
YouTube’s crypto problem
Crypto users regularly encounter fraudulent advertisements on YouTube featuring deepfake videos of prominent figures promoting fake giveaways. These ads run through YouTube’s own monetization system, meaning the platform profits from the very content it claims to be protecting users from.
Where creators go from here
Crypto creators have increasingly diversified their distribution across platforms like Rumble, Nostr, and other alternatives that offer more permissive content policies around financial topics.
For Bitcoin Treasuries Media specifically, the appeal process with YouTube represents the immediate priority. Previous high-profile removals in the Bitcoin space have been reversed after sufficient public pressure, suggesting that the system responds more to attention than to the merits of individual cases.
