Binance’s XAUT perpetual contracts are pulling $2B in daily trading volume, and gold bugs are paying attention

Tokenized gold derivatives have gone from a rounding error to one of Binance's most active perpetual pairs in under a year.

Tether Gold perpetual contracts on Binance are now generating roughly $2 billion in daily trading volume. To put that in perspective, XAUT perpetual futures were clocking about $1.5 million in daily volume back in December 2025. That’s a jump of more than 1,300x in a matter of months.

XAUT hit a peak daily trading volume of $6.4 billion on March 23, 2026. That spike was enough to make it the fifth most-traded perpetual pair on Binance, sitting alongside the usual suspects like BTC and ETH.

Binance offers XAUT only as a perpetual futures contract, not a spot trading pair. That means traders aren’t buying tokenized gold to hold it. They’re using leverage to speculate on price movements, the same way they’d trade any other perp. The distinction matters because XAUT perpetual contracts behave differently from XAUUSDT pairs, which track gold’s spot market price directly.

XAUT is Tether Gold, issued by the same company behind the USDT stablecoin. Each token is backed 1:1 by physical gold that meets London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) standards, held in vaults in Switzerland. The token lives on both Ethereum and Tron blockchains. Tether Gold’s market capitalization grew by $237 million in the 30 days leading up to mid-August 2026.

Binance has been actively expanding its lineup in the RWA segment, adding perpetual contracts tied to commodities and even stocks. XAUT entering the top five most active perpetual pairs on Binance within a single week in early August 2026 shows that demand isn’t just growing. It’s growing fast enough to reshape exchange rankings.
