The exchange has already stopped accepting new registrations from Japanese residents and will introduce phased restrictions for existing accounts.

From August 3, 2026, Japanese residents are no longer able to open new Bitget accounts. Customers who believe they were incorrectly classified as residing in Japan can avoid these restrictions by completing Level 2 KYC verification by November 1, 2026. Accounts that remain unverified by that date will automatically be designated as belonging to Japanese residents.

Bitget said restrictions for Japan-based users will begin rolling out on November 1, while any positions still open after December 31, 2026 will be automatically liquidated. The company said additional instructions covering account access, restrictions, and asset transfers will be sent to affected users via email.
