The San Francisco startup is pairing its AP 201 access point with Avalanche to decentralize private 5G network management

Bloxtel, a San Francisco-based startup building decentralized private 5G networks, announced it is deploying its infrastructure on Avalanche alongside the launch of its AP 201 device.

The AP 201 is Bloxtel’s flagship all-in-one 5G access point, designed to run full core network functionality at the edge rather than routing everything through centralized cloud infrastructure. The device supports US band 48 and international band 78, and it’s being manufactured through a partnership with Askey Computer Corp., a subsidiary of ASUS.

What Bloxtel actually builds

Founded in 2022, Bloxtel has positioned itself at the intersection of enterprise networking and decentralized technology. The company’s core innovation is its patented dSIM technology, which uses asymmetric PKI-based authentication to replace traditional SIM card infrastructure. In practical terms, that means device identity and network authentication happen through cryptographic key pairs rather than a physical chip tied to a carrier.

The company also developed what it calls Open6GC, a core network platform that integrates AI-driven automation and predictive maintenance. Bloxtel has claimed some aggressive performance numbers for its architecture: a 70% reduction in security threats, an 80% decrease in latency, a 90% drop in costs, and a tenfold increase in network capacity compared to traditional setups.

The AP 201 device itself is slated for availability in Q4 2026. Bloxtel’s business model revolves around a setup fee plus monthly charges for small cell deployments, with a basic plan advertised at $499 per month.

The Avalanche connection

Prior to this announcement, Bloxtel had been building on its own custom permissioned private blockchain for its Operator dApp and network management tools.

Leadership and credibility signals

Bloxtel’s founding team brings genuine telecom pedigree. Co-founder Izzo Wane is a former AT&T executive who previously founded Simless, another venture in the connectivity space. Co-founder Karsten Ohme spent time at Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems specializing in cryptography, which explains the emphasis on PKI-based authentication in the dSIM architecture.

The company also joined the OnGo Alliance in September 2024, a consortium focused on advancing private 5G deployments using Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum. CBRS is the shared spectrum band that the FCC opened up for commercial use, enabling enterprises to deploy private LTE and 5G networks without purchasing dedicated licensed spectrum.
