Cardano Foundation partners with University of Nicosia for blockchain course

The foundation will sponsor 25 Advanced Track spots and send guest speakers to UNIC's long-running free blockchain MOOC this fall

The Cardano Foundation has partnered with the University of Nicosia (UNIC) to support the university’s free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Blockchain and Digital Assets for the Fall 2026 semester.

The foundation will cover tuition for some students and supply guest lecturers.

Enrollment opened on September 24, 2026, the same day the partnership was announced. Classes start on September 28.

What the Cardano Foundation is bringing to class

The Cardano Foundation is sponsoring 25 student slots in the course’s paid Advanced Track, each valued at €199.

The course is split into two tiers. The Introductory Track runs from Weeks 1 through 8 and costs nothing. The Advanced Track covers Weeks 9 through 12 and carries the €199 fee.

Advanced Track participants get a few perks on completion. These include a Trezor Model T hardware wallet and a blockchain-verifiable certificate issued by UNIC.

Guest speakers and the curriculum

Technical writer John Greene and Patrick Tobler of Masumi Network are slated to appear as guest speakers. Their sessions are scheduled for Week 3 and Week 12. The topics are programmable blockchains and the convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.

Week 3 lands squarely in the free Introductory Track. That means every enrolled student, paid or not, gets exposure to Cardano’s perspective early in the semester.

A course with a long track record

UNIC launched this MOOC in 2014. Since then, the course has reached more than 150,000 students from over 120 countries. It is described as the world’s longest-running university blockchain course.

The Cardano Foundation runs its own educational effort as well. Its Cardano Academy offers material on blockchain fundamentals, staking, and smart contracts.

What this means for Cardano and blockchain education

The research behind this partnership frames it as part of a broader pattern. Blockchain projects are increasingly working alongside educational institutions rather than relying solely on their own channels.

There are caveats worth watching. When a single ecosystem sponsors seats and speakers, students should expect its perspective to get airtime. The value of the course will depend on whether it stays balanced across networks and approaches.

The immediate impact is concrete and modest. Twenty-five learners get a free pass to the Advanced Track, everyone enrolled gets two Cardano-affiliated guest sessions, and the course rolls into another semester starting September 28.
