Anthropic's beta Projects upgrade lets Claude track dependencies and API keys in Claude Code cloud sessions
Anthropic wants Claude to do more than write code. It now wants the assistant to run the project too.
Claude can now identify a project’s dependencies and the API keys it needs during cloud sessions. The capability is available to subscribers on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans, and it arrives as part of a beta version of an upgraded Projects feature.
What the Projects upgrade actually does
The enhanced Projects feature is built to handle complex, multi-step work with less hand-holding. Claude can scope a project, split the workload across parallel cloud threads, and coordinate how the pieces depend on each other.
Once the parallel threads finish, Claude also reviews the outputs. It can manage the API keys and environment settings a project requires during Claude Code sessions as well.
Spotting dependencies is the quiet workhorse of the update. Software projects lean on outside libraries, services, and tools, and missing one can stall everything. Having Claude flag those requirements up front means fewer surprises halfway through a session.
Rollout, migration, and pricing
The rollout began around mid-to-late September 2026. It focuses on people using Claude Code cloud sessions, and it sits inside a broader overhaul Anthropic kicked off that same month.
Existing projects are being migrated automatically, with no data loss for some users on paid plans.
Claude Code access is now unified under the Pro, Max, and Ultra subscriptions.

Here is how the lineup breaks down:
Pro costs $20 per month, or $17 per month when billed annually.
Max costs $100 and provides five times the usage of Pro.
Ultra runs $200 per month. It offers ten times Pro’s weekly usage and drops the five-hour session limit once a user is verified.
That Ultra change was confirmed as of October 30-31, 2026.
Why autonomy is the real headline
Parallel cloud threads are the clearest signal of that direction. Instead of working through tasks one by one, Claude can farm work out to several threads and then pull the results back together.
For software developers, the payoff is the ability to orchestrate multiple workflows without micromanaging each step.
What this means for developers and teams
The most immediate effect lands on the people already paying for Claude Code. Their projects move over automatically, and their tools get noticeably more capable without a separate purchase.
The removal of the five-hour session cap on verified Ultra accounts targets the power-user crowd directly. Long-running agent work does not fit neatly into short windows, and Anthropic appears to be acknowledging that.
