Trump pocketed $636M while buyers lost $3.8B on his meme coin, report finds
Trump made money whether the price went up or down.
For most who bought TRUMP, “winning” never arrived.
According to a report by crypto analytics firm Nansen, nearly one million investors who purchased Official Trump (TRUMP), the meme coin backed by President Donald Trump, collectively lost about $3.8 billion through the end of June.
The report found that 988,905 wallets, roughly two-thirds of all buyers analyzed, recorded losses. In contrast, fewer than 500,000 wallets earned approximately $4 billion, largely concentrated on early and sophisticated traders.
The findings follow Trump’s financial disclosure showing he received a $636 million payout from the meme coin project.
Since the project generated revenue from trading activity, Trump benefited from transaction fees regardless of the token’s market performance.
The coin has dropped about 97% from its all-time high after an early surge following its launch, per CoinGecko.
Nansen also reported that the majority of tracked holders of WLFI, the token associated with World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project backed by the Trump family, were also underwater.
The token changed hands at $0.056 at press time, down roughly 83% from its peak set last September.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Trump said he has stepped back from managing his family’s crypto businesses, saying his sons oversee the operations while outside firms manage the investments.
Trump also dismissed concerns about conflicts of interest after the filing showed he earned at least $1.4 billion from crypto-related businesses in 2025. He said there was “nothing illegal” about the arrangement.
