About 1INCH
1inch is a decentralized finance protocol that works as a decentralized exchange aggregator, routing trades across multiple DEXs on Ethereum and other blockchains to find users better prices and liquidity. Sergej Kunz and Anton Bukov created the project after an ETHGlobal New York hackathon in 2019, and the 1inch Network was formally established around 2019 to 2020. The native token, 1INCH, launched on 25 December 2020, alongside a retroactive airdrop to early users and the formation of the 1inch DAO. 1inch is an application-layer protocol built on top of existing blockchains and relies on the underlying chains' consensus mechanisms, such as Ethereum's proof-of-stake, rather than operating its own base-layer network. Its core design uses smart-contract-based DEX aggregation and intent-based order filling. The 1INCH token is a governance and utility token, used for DAO voting, staking to earn Unicorn Power for delegation to resolvers, and participation in protocol incentives. The token supply is hard-capped at 1.5 billion, with the mint function permanently burned in April 2022. Circulating supply is roughly 1.4 billion 1INCH. The protocol consolidates access to decentralized exchange markets by aggregating liquidity across multiple sources.
