About Ethereum Classic

Ethereum Classic is a smart-contract blockchain that continues the original Ethereum chain after a 2016 split. When developers reversed a major hack through a hard fork, some participants kept the unaltered ledger, and that chain became Ethereum Classic, with its first block mined on July 20, 2016. People use ETC to run smart contracts, build decentralized applications, pay fees, and transfer value. It uses proof of work, so miners confirm transactions and add blocks. Its monetary policy is capped, though sources differ on the exact figure, citing totals between roughly 210.7 million and 230 million ETC.
